Hiker Interviews

The best thing about hiking and spending time outdoors is doing it with friends! Talking about trips you've taken and sharing experiences is a great way to communicate about hiking and you can hear some pretty awesome stories along the way. Here, I have interviewed two hikers who love the outdoors and have amazing stories to tell!

Harrison Raub

Q: What has been one of your favorite hiking experiences and why?
A: Best hiking experience was backpacking in the Paria canyon/buckskin gulch in Utah/Arizona with my brother.

Q: What made this particular experience unique?
A It was unique because it was the longest slot canyon in the world, and it felt like I was visiting another planet because the beauty was so real and encompassing.

Q: What draws you to the outdoors?
A: I love the outdoors because it is a chance for solitude with beauty, as well as a great opportunity to really get to know people. Talking is one of the best way to pass the time, and I always have great conversations with people.

Q: Where would you want to go in the future?
A: I really want to hike the Lost Coast Trail in California and visit Yosemite and the Redwoods out there.

Q: Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to start hiking regularly?
A: For people looking to hike regularly, I definitely think it's just about taking the step of actually doing it. It is always an intimidating experience exploring somewhere you have never gone before, but the results are always worth it. Do that, bring plenty of water and food for the distance, and have a good hiking partner you can relate to and have fun with. Attitude is everything.

Q: What has been one of your favorite hiking experiences and why?
One of my most favorite hiking experiences has been at Zion National Park in Utah. I hiked Angel's Landing and completing it felt like a major accomplishment. It was one of my favorites because it was one of the most intimidating hikes I have ever completed, but the views at the end were definitely worth it.

Q: What made this particular experience unique?
This experience was unique because it was the first hike I have ever been on that required chains to complete. The red rock, flowing river and green growth created an awesome contrast that I will never be able to forget. It was by far the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Q: What draws you to the outdoors?
I love to be outdoors and hiking because it clears my mind and reminds me of simplicity. I remember how small I really am and how awesome our God is for creating such wonder. I love the outdoors because there is always something new to see and experience, it never gets old.

Q: Where would you want to go in the future?
In the future I would love to go to every National Park in our country and spend time experiencing their uniqueness.
Q: Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to start hiking regularly?
If you would like to start hiking regularly I would suggest making sure you take as much time as you need - don't try to rush anything. Don't be afraid to try something new!
