The Wilderness Center

The Wilderness Center is located in Wilmot, OH and consists of many acres of land used for hiking and some other outdoor activities. The Wilderness Center's goal is to connect the community with nature. Education is one of their main focuses here, in which they host a multitude of events year round. They also have volunteer opportunities to better the environment, and have seen hundreds of kids on field trips. Their large education center is a great way for the community, especially younger kids, to learn about the outdoors and to connect with their outdoor environment.
I started coming to TWC over ten years ago when my parents would take my sister and I there throughout the year as a place to hike around and enjoy the outdoors. I have many memories here of my younger days and its refreshing to go back every now and then and see all the new and improved features that they have added. For example, in 2012, solar panels were installed on their property in order to help the education building to operate. They have also added a small, dynamic play area for children so that they can play while interacting with nature.
On my most recent visit to TWC, I took a small loop trail that is probably the most traveled trail there, as it's convenient to see all of their features. This trail can be really fun due to its diverse scenery, even though it is only about less than a mile long. The only thing that I disliked about my experience here was that there was a large section of trees to the side of one portion of the trail that had been completely chopped down. It just didn't provide a natural forest feel. Also, this is the first time I have really noticed the extensive amount of telephone lines that ran through the main trail. Overall, the Wildnerness Center is a great place to enjoy an afternoon in nature!
